Eight parishioners will vie for three vacant seats on the St. Bernard parish council this year.
Here is a short biography for each candidate (more information for each will be available on the ballot):
JoAnna Richard has been a member of St. Bernard’s for 25 years and currently serves as a Lector/Commentator and volunteer as a team lead for the Snack Pack program. She has experience working on boards and councils, having previously served on the Middleton City Council for eight years and the Dane County Board of Supervisors.
Jim Zimmerman has always participated in church activities. At three Madison parishes, he and his wife, Laurie, have served on various liturgical and parish fund-raising teams. He currently works three days a week at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Verona. He and his wife participated in the Evangelical Catholic Lenten groups here at St Bernard, and he said they appreciated the weekly gatherings.
Mark Wettstein has been a St. Bernard Parish member since mid-June 1996. He currently serves as a Eucharistic Minister for the Saturday Mass. He lives in Waunakee with his wife of 29 years. They have two children, who graduated from Middleton High School and are currently pursuing their college degrees.
Julie Konsoer has been a member of St. Bernard Parish her entire whole life.
While living in California for many years, she still considers St. Bernard as her spiritual home. Upon returning to Wisconsin 10 years ago, she taught Religious Education for four years and served on the Environment Committee. Professionally, Konsoer has a background in television and has worked for the past 10 years for the Sinclair Broadcast Group as an assistant manager for Advertising Support Operations.
Erin Derksen and her husband, Greg, have been St. Bernard members since they moved here more than 10 years ago. They have three children, and she works part-time as an actuary for an insurance company. For the last couple years, she has served as a Eucharistic Minister and a catechist for elementary religious education.
Traci Dalsin has spent her career to date in the commercial real estate investment world. Today, she is the executive vice president of Zeustra, a national healthcare real estate advisory firm. Dalsin and her husband, Jeff, are the proud parents of three children. The family joined St. Bernard Parish a little over eight years ago.
Brian Shaw and his wife, Kassia, became members of St. Bernard Parish in 2016. They have four children and co-instructed the second grade last year for Religious Education. He has served in many leadership positions professionally and has worked with many non-profit organizations.
Terra Morris and her family moved here from Wind Point, Wis., in 2016. A very important part of her moving process was to find a Catholic community for her family to grow their faith. She and her husband, Bradley, have been married for 17 years and they have three children. Morris is the executive director for the Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce and the president of Glacier Creek Middle School PTO.
