Fr. Tait Schroeder’s home parish is St. Norbert’s in Roxbury. He grew up in the Sauk City area attending public schools there through eighth grade. As a freshman, he went to Holy Name Seminary in Madison. He graduated in 1994 and then attended St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn., pursuing a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He then went to major seminary at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. He was ordained a priest on May 24, 2002 and went back to finish a degree in sacramental theology. He was assigned to St. Maria Goretti and St. Dennis parishes in Madison as a parochial vicar and then named pastor in Ridgeway and Barneveld in 2005. In 2008, he returned to Rome to study canon law (the laws of the Catholic Church) and came back to Madison after getting his doctorate in 2012. He served as the Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Madison from 2013-2018 and was also pastor at St. Peter’s in Ashton and St. Martin’s in Martinsville from 2015-2018. He was then asked to go back to Rome a third time to work at what is now called the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith using his canonical skills. Near the end of his five-year term, Bishop Hying called him back to assist the diocese with the “Into the Deep” Strategic Plan.
